Online Experience and Platforms

Prior to the start of the program, participants will gain access to the required online platforms—Adobe Connect, Canvas, and Pronto. Watch for emails from the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies team with details about platform access and orientations.

To participate in the Stanford Middle School Scholars Program (SMSSP), you'll need a laptop or desktop computer, a webcam, headphones, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Ensure you have these requirements set up by the first day of class. If you need assistance with any of these items, you can request technical equipment through the Device Lending Program when completing your enrollment agreement.

This agreement should be filled out by a parent or legal guardian. Only request equipment if the student does not have access to the required devices (computer, headphones, microphone, and/or webcam). Device Lending Program Policies

Internet Connection
Students will need a reliable internet connection that can handle video conferencing. Since our courses are interactive and include video, chat, and presentations, a strong connection is important. We recommend using a wired Ethernet connection for the best experience.
Computer
Scholars will need daily access to a computer that can run the latest versions of internet browsers, plug-ins, and software. Your computer should be able to use the most recent versions of Chrome or Firefox and meet the system requirements for Adobe Connect, Pronto, and Canvas. We recommend using a computer for the best experience, and mobile devices should only be used as a backup if your computer isn't working. If you're unsure whether your computer meets these requirements, feel free to reach out to our technical support team.
Headphones and Microphone
If you're using a laptop with a built-in microphone, we recommend using headphones during live class sessions to avoid any echo or feedback. A headset with a microphone will also help ensure your audio is clear when you're participating in class.
Webcam
Participants should have a built-in or external webcam to join class each day. To be marked present, students need to have their video on and actively participate.
Choosing Your Learning Environment
Pick a space where you feel comfortable being on camera and can easily contribute using your microphone. A quiet area with minimal distractions is best for focused learning.
